Oatmeal Cookies
Makes 2 Dozen Cookies
*3/4 cup shortening, such as Crisco(R)
*2 1/2 cups brown sugar
*1 cup sugar
*2 eggs
*1/2 cup water
*1 1/2 tbls. vanilla essence
*1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
*1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
*1 tsp. salt
*1 tsp. cinnamon
*1/2 tsp. ground cloves
*2 cups raisins
*2 cups walnuts
*6 cups old-fashioned oats
1Cream together shortening, sugars, eggs, water and vanilla; beat well. Separately, combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves; add to creamed mixture and beat well. Stir in raisins, nuts and oats.
2Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool slightly on sheet before removing to cooling racks.
