
Canyon Ranch Classic Marinara Sauce
Makes 12 servingsIngredients
* | 2/3 cup diced onion |
* | 1 1/2 tsp. olive oil |
* | 1/2 tbls. minced fresh garlic |
* | 1/4 tsp. red chili flakes |
* | 1 tsp. dried basil |
* | 1/2 tsp. dried oregano |
* | 1/4 tsp. dried thyme |
* | 6 cups canned whole tomatoes |
* | 1 1/2 cups canned tomato puree |
* | 1 tbls. honey |
* | 1 tbls. chopped fresh basil |
* | 1 tbls. chopped fresh oregano |
Instructions
1 | In a large saucepan, saute onion in olive oil over low heat. Add garlic and brown slightly. Add red chili flakes, dried herbs and saute for about 30 seconds. |
2 | Immediately add whole tomatoes and tomato puree. Simmer for approximately 1 hour or until sauce has thickened. Add honey, fresh basil and fresh oregano. Puree slightly in a blender, if desired. |
3 | Serve ½ cup sauce over 1 cup cooked pasta. |
Notes
- Rub dried herbs between your hands before adding to other ingredients to release their volatile oils.
