Canyon Ranch Classic Marinara Sauce
Makes 12 servings
*2/3 cup diced onion
*1 1/2 tsp. olive oil
*1/2 tbls. minced fresh garlic
*1/4 tsp. red chili flakes
*1 tsp. dried basil
*1/2 tsp. dried oregano
*1/4 tsp. dried thyme
*6 cups canned whole tomatoes
*1 1/2 cups canned tomato puree
*1 tbls. honey
*1 tbls. chopped fresh basil
*1 tbls. chopped fresh oregano
1In a large saucepan, saute onion in olive oil over low heat. Add garlic and brown slightly. Add red chili flakes, dried herbs and saute for about 30 seconds.
2Immediately add whole tomatoes and tomato puree. Simmer for approximately 1 hour or until sauce has thickened. Add honey, fresh basil and fresh oregano. Puree slightly in a blender, if desired.
3Serve ½ cup sauce over 1 cup cooked pasta.
  • Rub dried herbs between your hands before adding to other ingredients to release their volatile oils.
